Airport Parking is so expensive, how about parking near by on a public street?
We are going on a two week trip next month and priced out taxis and airport parking. Both are very expensive and I do not have anyone to drive me both ways. So I am thinking of alternatives.
How about parking in a large apartment complex near the airport or a residential street and then taking a cab from there.
Any unusual ideas to save money on long term airport parking?
You did not specify a specific airport. So generally speaking public parking is not a good option. This idea has been thought of and subsequently squashed long ago for any airport. Note also that there is not much in the way of residences near airports in the first place for obvious reasons. And as you have pointed out, taxis have priced themselves to the point of uselessness for most of USA.
Since you elude to the possibility of your catching a ride one-way, I would go with that. Then on the flip side, rent a car one-way. Most rental car companies are also useless for this. But if you look for a decent one-way rental, it works. I did this last week for $49.00 plus the gas, now cheap. Over the summer I was pulling down one-way rentals for for much less. I return them to locations near my home. Normally the price depends on their need. They can charge me to move their cars back or forth or they can pay their drivers to do it.
